Samantha Parkington was my favorite American Girl ever. She was so pretty with her dark wavy hair and her pretty dresses. She was a brave little orphan who lived with her wealthy grandma and always tried to be a lady even though it wasn't always easy. She was rich, but she wasn't spoiled and she was so nice to everyone around her. Remember when she gave her favorite doll to Nellie because she didn't have one? Remember when Eddie poured salt all over her homemade ice cream? Remember the tasty petit fours she had for her birthday?I always wanted a Samantha doll when I was little. I used to look at her pages in the catalog and circle the things I wanted even though I knew I would never get them. Even as a seven year old, I knew it didn't make sense to spend hundreds of dollars on a doll and all her accessories. (Her bedroom set was so pretty though!)
Anyway, now I live next door to American Girl place. Yesterday I dragged Dennis in so we could look at dolls, and for some reason, Samantha wasn't on display anymore. I went to customer service to ask where Samantha was being kept, and it turns out that Samantha has been ARCHIVED. She is the only doll in the whole collection to be archived! All by herself! Even Felicity's still around and she's ancient! I was so sad, I almost cried on the spot. American girl has a site for people to post Samantha stories to remember her by, but wah it just doesn't seem fair! Why don't they take Addy or Josephina away?! No one even likes them! (Sorry, I just need to get the pretween out of me right now.)
Goodbye, Samantha Parkington. Even though I can no longer live vicariously through all the spoiled kids who wander around the American Girl store demanding that their parents buy them over-priced dolls and accessories, I will always remember you, my favorite AG.
