Day after

Happy sigh.

That's all I'm doing today. Sighing happily over and over again.

You know, this is going to be the first time in 2.5 years where we can just enjoy life without having to plan ahead? We don't have to worry about Step 1 (or 2), doing well on exams, OSCEs, apathetic residents, comparisons with classmates, M3 grades, research, publications, mentorship, applications, letters, personal statements, interviews, rank lists, letters of intent, not matching, expectations, preparing for the unknown future, trying to stay afloat or get ahead....

We can just be happy, watch TV, hang out with friends and enjoy learning for the sake of learning. Sounds so simple, but you soon realize how special that can be.

I feel like there were moments over the last couple of years where the only thing that kept me moving forward was the belief that hard work and determination was worth something. That if you push yourself to do your absolute best and to work as hard as you possibly can, you can make your dreams come true. Or at least, live with no regrets.

It's nice to wake up today and know that it was worth it. I feel....weary, but I guess I don't need to become a cynical old woman just yet. :)
