Wired

I brewed myself some coffee yesterday afternoon and I still feel like I'm about to jump out of my skin. 17 hours later.

I've always had this not so secret fear of becoming addicted to coffee, where I wouldn't be able to get out of bed unless there was a cup of coffee waiting for me in the kitchen, a pre-coffee Christine equals crazy bitch with dark circles kind of thing. I didn't have any false illusions about making it through medical school and residency coffee free, so the plan (yes, I had a plan) was to hold off until at least 3rd year. (When it's you against those 5am wake up calls and night flows, don't you want some coffee on your side?) Well, long days in Galter last semester quickly put an end to that idea, and every afternoon we'd make a trip to the 26 cent coffee machine for a cheap caffeine infusion. By the end of the semester, I. felt. nothing.

I haven't been back to Galter in 2008, and I've had a lot less coffee since, but who knew what this would do to my coffee tolerance?! It took me 2 hours to fall asleep last night, and I literally leapt out of bed this morning after a few hours of sleep, but that's okay! I'll probably crash really hard in T-minus 3 hours, but let's not lie, it's kind of nice to know that I've still got a magic drug in coffee.

wow. your coffee must be SO POTENT. yesterday was also caffeine revelation moment for me too. i had no caffeine yesterday and from 10am to 10pm, my brain was in a cloudy state. after "studying" one lecture, i would have to go to bed and close my eyes a bit.

but today, now after a mug of coffee, i've gotten more done from 9am to 11am than i did yesterday.
