On the same night, California voters adopted a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage.
I knew it might be tight, but in the end I knew there was no way it could pass in a state as wonderful, diverse and forward thinking as California. Joke's on me. I was so wrong! When we were in elementary school we asked how interracial marriages could have once been illegal, how African Americans could have been considered 3/5 of a person, and it's just sad that our kids will ask us one day why we stood in the way of gay marriage. It's sad that on a day where the nation took a huge step forward, California took a huge one back.
