In lieu of finishing my gyn H&P, I'm sitting here with a mug of Yume tea listening to Suppe's Poet and the Peasant overture. That's one of my favorite orchestral pieces.
Sigh, remember how I used to be a decently good flutist? I owned two! One for band and school concerts, one for CYS. I actually cared about the slight differences between Gemeinhardt and Yamaha flutes and spent months trying different ones before settling on the one I have now. The one that sits collecting dust in the corner of my bedroom at home. I used to play piano. I spoke Chinese well enough to consider a career in international business, Spanish well enough to seriously consider double majoring in college. I won awards in Speech and Debate, swam, created beautiful interactive 3D VAs, and read anything I could get my hands on. I had a list of things I wanted to learn: ballroom dancing, oil painting, photography, cooking, new languages. If you asked me to tell you about myself, I actually had things to say.
I don't know how to do any of that anymore. These aren't even things you can just decide to do/be good at again.
Nowadays, I can speak English, and play pretend doctor and.... that's about it. My pastimes include 2-3 hours of TV and 1-2 hrs of exercise a week. That's really sad, right?
Last (rhetorical) question: Is it possible to be a great med student and be good at something else? Hah, too bad I'm too overworked to find out.
